The
Midland Railway, Butterley
The largest building on the Butterley site in Derbyshire is the Matthew
Kirtley Museum. Matthew was appointed Locomotive and Carriage Superintendent
on the creation of the Midland Railway Company. He was in charge of the
Derby works for the rest of his life.

Describes (with photographs) the renovation of Derby College's Roundhouse
locomotive building, formerly the Midland Railways workshop. Now known as
the Kirtley Building, it includes a life-size graphic of a Kirtley
locomotive on the entrance doors and a 'supergraphic' of Matthew Kirtley
himself.
