Fifty Years Service
ROYAL COLLEGE OF SURGEONS OF ENGLAND.-- The following members of the
College, having been elected Fellows at previous meetings of the
Council, were admitted as such on the 9th inst., ... At this meeting of
the Council it was unanimously resolved that 200 guineas be devoted to
the purchase of a piece of plate to be presented to
Mr. Edmund Belfour in
acknowledgement of his unvarying zeal, fidelity, and honourable conduct,
and of the invaluable services he has rendered to the institution in all
its departments during the 50 years now completed
of his tenure of office as Secretary of the College.

Note: an Administrative/Biographical history record (attached to
a
Receipt for a body for dissection) states that Edmund Belfour, born
in 1790, became
secretary to The Royal College of Surgeons of England at age 21, taking
over from his father, Okey
Belfour. Okey died in 1811
