John George Merrill was born in Rothwell, in 1857, the son of Samuel and Eliza Merrill. He married Ada Page in 1882. Ada was born in Desborough in 1862, the daughter of James Page and Mary Yeomans.

Arthur William Merrill was born in Desborough, in 1892, to John and Ada. Arthur was a private (no. 80380) in the Royal Army Medical Corps, 38th Field Ambulance. He is buried at St. Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France.

William George Holmes was born in Kettering, in 1890, the son of Thomas and Charlotte Holmes. He married John and Ada's daughter Kate in 1912. William was a private (no. 3/8758), in "D" Company,  1st battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment. He is buried at Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, Longueval, France.
