County of Northampton to wit.
The Complaint of James Biggs one of the Churchwardens of the
Parish of Desborough in the said County of Northampton made on
behalf of the churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the
said Parish of Desborough and with their assent, unto us the
undersigned, two of Her Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and
for the said County, at Kettering in the said County, this 26th
Day of February in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight
Hundred and Forty seven who saith: That
John Ward and Martha Ward his wife and their two Children
Elizabeth Ward aged two years and three quarters and Matilda
aged 5 days
have lately come to inhabit and are now inhabiting in the
said Parish endeavouring to settle there contrary to Law, not
having resided in the said Parish for Five Years next before
this Application and Complaint, and not having gained a legal
Settlement there, nor having produced any Certificate
acknowledging them to be settled elsewhere, and that on the
fourth Day of January in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight
Hundred and Forty seven the said John Ward and his said wife and
Elizabeth their child became chargeable to, and from thence
hitherto have been relieved by, and are nor receiving Relief
from the said Parish of Desborough. The said James Biggs
therefore prays that the said John Ward may be duly examined as
to the place of their legal Settlement, and further dealt with
according to Law.

Parish of Ashley in the County of Northampton
As to the Removal of John Ward and Martha Ward his wife and
Elizabeth Ward and Matilda Ward his Children
To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the
Parish of Ashley in the County of Northampton
Take Notice, that the above-named John Ward
now residing at Desborough in this Parish has with Martha Ward
his Wife Elizabeth Ward and Matilda Ward his children become and
now is chargeable to the said Parish of Desborough and is now
receiving Relief from the said Parish, and that an Order of
Justices has been obtained for their Removal to your Parish of
Ashley as their last place of legal Settlement (a duplicate of
which Order, and Copies of the Examinations on which the same
was made, are herewith sent). And Take Notice,
That unless Notice of Appeal against the said Order be received
by us within Twenty-one Days from the sending hereof, the said
Paupers will be removed to your said Parish of Ashley in
pursuance of the said Order.
