Mary Panther
Removal Order 7th January 1763
from Desborough to Harrowden
Northamptonshire To wit.
To the Church-Wardens, and Overseers of the Poor of the
Parish of Desborough in the County of Northampton, and to the Church-Wardens,
and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Harrowden in
the County of Northampton aforesaid.
WHEREAS Complaint hath been made by you the Church-wardens and Overseers of the
Poor
of the said Parish of Desborough unto Us whose Hands and Seals are hereunto set, two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace,
(Whereof one is of the Quorum) for
the County aforesaid, That Mary Panther
lately intruded herself into your said Parish of Desborough
there to inhabit as a Parishioner contrary to the Laws relating to
the Settlement of the Poor and is there likely to become chargeable,
if not timely prevented: And Whereas upon due Examination and
Enquiry made into the Premises. as well as upon the Oath of the said
Mary Panther
It appears unto Us, and we accordingly Adjudge, that the said
Mary Panther is like to become chargeable unto the said Parish of
Desborough and that the last legal Place of Settlement of the said
Mary Panther is in the said Parish of Harrowden in the said County
of Northampton.
There are therefore in his Majesty's Name, to order and require
you the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish
of Desborough aforesaid that you or some of you, do forthwith remove
and convey the said Mary Panther
from your said Parish of Desborough to the said Parish of
Harrowden and her deliver to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the
Poor there, or some one of the, together with this Warrant or Order,
or a true Copy hereof; whereby they are likewise required in his
Majesty's Name, and by Virtue of the Statutes in such Case made,
forthwith to receive the said Mary Panther
into their said Parish of Harrowden and provide for her as their
own Parishioner. Given under our Hands and Seals, the 7th Day of
January in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty

It's not yet known whether Mary Panther was
one of several women of the same name already known to be living
in Desborough at this time, or whether she had in truth only
'lately' come to Desborough.
The removal order was entered on a printed form.
