Desborough Study : Settlement Records
County of Leicester, to wit.
To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the
Parish or Township of Arnesby in the County of Leicester. And to
the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of
Desborough in the County of Northampton.
Whereas complaint hath been
made by you the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the
said Parish or Township of Arnesby unto us, whose hands and
seals are hereunto set, two of His Majesty's Justices of the
Peace (whereof one is of the Quorum) in and for the County of
Leicester, that John Coe, Elizabeth his Wife and their four
legitimate Children (viz) Richard aged Nine Years who hath not
done any Act to gain a Settlement Ann aged Six Years, Mary aged
four years, and Nathaniel aged One Year and a half have lately
intruded themselves into your said Parish or Township of Arnesby
there to inhabit as Parishioner, contrary to the Laws relating
to the Settlement of the Poor, and are there become chargeable.
And Whereas, upon due examination and enquiry made into the
Premises, as well as upon the examination upon oath of the said
John Coe taken before us the said Justices, as otherwise it
appears unto us, and we accordingly adjudge that the said John
Coe his Wife and Children are become chargeable unto the said
Parish or Township of Arnesby and that the last legal place of
settlement of the said John Coe his Wife and Children is in the
said Parish or Township of Desborough in the said County of
Northampton.
These are in His Majesty's name, to order
and require you the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor
of the Parish or Township of Arnesby aforesaid, that you, or
some of you, do forthwith remove and convey the said John Coe
his Wife and Children from you said Parish or Township of
Desborough and them deliver to the Churchwardens and Overseers
of the Poor there, or some of them, together with this Warrant
or Order, or a true Copy hereof, and you the said Churchwardens
and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish or Township of
Desborough are hereby required in His Majesty's name, and by
virtue of the Statutes in such case made, forthwith to receive
the said John Coe his Wife and Children into their said Parish
or Township and provide for them as their own Parishioners.
Given under our Hands and Seals this 23 Day of October in the
Year of our Lord 1819.
