To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of
the parish of Desborough |
We the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the parish of Braybrook in
the County of Northampton Do hereby Certifie the Churchwardens and Overseers of
the Poor of the parish of Desborough in the County of Northampton aforesaid that
we doe hereby own and acknowledge John Cooper Blacksmith being now Resident in
Desborough aforesaid, and his Family which he now hath or hereafter shall or may
have to be inhabitants Legally settled in the said parish of Braybrooke. And we
the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the parish of Braybrooke
aforesaid do hereby promise for us and the successors to provide for him the
said John Cooper and his Wife and Family whensoever he she or they shall become
Chargeable to the said parish of Desborough or be forced to ask relief therein.
In Testimony whereof we have hereunto set our honds and Seals the Fifth day of
January in the Second year of Reigne of our Sovereigne Lord George by the Grace
of God of Great Britaine France & Ireland King defender of the Faith &c. Annoq.

Note: One of John's sons, Robert, also had a settlement certificate from
Braybrook in 1749. Another son, John junior, was ordered to be removed to
Braybrook in 1762 along with his wife and children.
Desborough is less than 3 miles east south east of Braybrook
