NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
CENTRAL NATIONAL SCHOOLS REPORT
. . .
At almost every meeting of the committee during the past year, their
attention has been directed to the lamentable state of the school at Desborough,
and they can scarcely in too strong terms express their thanks to the Rev. D.
Watson, of Guilsborough, for the great exertions he has made to further their
wishes in establishing it on an efficient footing. During the continued illness
of the Curate, and with his permission, Mr. Watson has endeavoured to ascertain
what funds might be procured, and what encouragement a good school would in all
probability meet with in the parish, and his report was so favorable that the
committee were ready to make a considerable grant towards its establishment.
Difficulties however have since arisen, over which the committee have no
control, and they regret that they cannot at present encourage any hopes of the
opening of such a school at Desborough as would justify them in making any grant
out of the funds at their disposal. The late grant is altogether withdrawn.
