Bursting of Gas Main, November 1884
A sad mishap occurred at Desborough in the bursting of the gas main
in consequence of the weight of a passing traction engine. The village
gaslight was almost completely stopped for one evening. It not
infrequently happens that steam rollers in re-making streets injure the
gas pipes below the surface, and one or two occurrences of the kind took
place in Northampton lately.
