RIOT AND ASSAULT AT DESBOROUGH
WE, the Undersigned, residing at Desborough, in the county of Northampton, do
most humbly acknowledge ourselves at fault for insulting and behaving ourselves
in a riotous and tumultuous manner toward Mr. Thomas Worth, in the execution of
his duty as Sheriff's Officer of the county, and also Mr. Charles W. Higgins,
Constable of Rowell, and others, his assistants:— And we do hereby publicly beg
pardon of the said Mr. Worth, Mr. Higgs, and their Assistants for our bad
conduct towards them on Monday, the Seventeenth day of December last, as above
stated:—And in consideration of the said Mr. Worth's withdrawing a prosecution
instituted against us at the last Quarter Sessions, we faithfully promise never
to insult nor interrupt them in the performance of their duties in future; and
do hereby promise to pay all the expences of the said prosecution, and also a
fine to the County Lunatic Asylum.
In witness hereof we have each and every of us set our hands this
twenty-first day of January, 1839.
